The problem
A large enterprise needed to consolidate and modernise its data centres, with legacy servers, mixed storage platforms and strict availability targets.
What I did
I managed the vSphere lifecycle, including DRS, HA, vSAN, vCenter upgrades, distributed switches, Aria Operations and Site Recovery Manager. Physical and virtual machines moved with P2V and V2V migrations, including legacy Windows 2003 servers. I kept disaster recovery documentation and failover procedures current and tested for every site.
P2V consolidation of over 800 physical servers onto VMware vSphere reduced the hardware footprint and licensing costs and made the estate simpler to manage.
The result
The programme covered 7 US sites and 6 global data centres, over 150 ESXi hosts and over 1,500 Windows servers, running on platforms such as Cisco UCS vBlock, Dell VxRail, NetApp and EMC.
