About this tool
Storage performance is governed by IOPS (I/O operations per second), block size (KB per I/O), and throughput (MB/s). For example, 1,000 IOPS at an 8 KB block size delivers ~7.8 MB/s, while the same 1,000 IOPS at 256 KB delivers 250 MB/s. Use this calculator to size Azure Managed Disks (Standard SSD, Premium SSD, Premium SSD v2, Ultra Disk) and VMware vSphere VMFS datastores, verify backup change windows, and test whether SQL/Oracle OLTP will hit disk throughput caps.
